Frequently asked questions

anything else on your mind? reach out.

    • Does it actually block apps, or is it just a timer?

Both. In timer mode, you set a session length and tap the logo — mnkmode uses Screen Time to block the apps you selected for the duration. In nfc tag mode, the block stays active until you physically walk back to the tag and scan it again. The barrier is intentional.

    • Which apps can I block?

Any app on your iPhone. You can block individual apps or entire categories like Social Networking, Entertainment, or Games. The selection screen lets you pick exactly what gets locked out during a session.

    • What if I just go to Settings and turn off Screen Time?

The blocking is handled by iOS Screen Time. You can always disable it manually — we're not trying to trap you. But opening Settings, navigating to Screen Time, and disabling it is enough friction that most people don't bother. That friction is the point.

    • Do I need an NFC tag to use the app?

No. Timer mode works completely standalone — no accessories needed. The NFC tag is only required for nfc tag mode, where physically scanning the tag is what starts and ends your session. You can grab a tag for about €1 on Amazon.

    • What NFC tag should I buy?

Any standard NTAG213 or NTAG215 sticker works. We linked one on Amazon that we tested with the app. Stick it somewhere that requires a deliberate physical trip to reach — the further from your desk, the better.

    • Is this a subscription?

No. mnkmode is a one-time purchase. You pay once and own it forever. No monthly fee, no premium tier, no upsell. Both modes included, one flat price.

    • Does mnkmode work on iPad or Mac?

Right now mnkmode is iPhone only. iPad and Mac support may come later, but the core experience is built around the phone — since that's where most distraction happens.

    • Can I end a session early?

Yes, at any time through the app. The block lifts immediately. There's no punishment mechanic — the goal is to make the focused path the default one, not to lock you in.

    • Does it track my usage or send data anywhere?

No. mnkmode does not collect usage data, does not require an account, and sends nothing to a server. Everything stays on your device. The app works fully offline.
